Academic Advising

The Academic Advising Scheme has been established to provide support and guidance to students throughout their academic journey. Faculty advisors, drawing on their diverse educational backgrounds and extensive experiences, offer advice to help students in academic studies, Major or Concentration selection, personal development, and career planning.

Learning Outcomes:

With the provision of academic advising, students should be able to:

  • adapt to the University learning environment effectively;
  • understand the School of Communication and its programmes, and facilitate their selection of Majors and Concentrations;
  • identify study plans and courses suitable for personal growth and professional development; and
  • plan for careers or further studies.
     

Mechanism

  • The School will randomly assign advisors to students admitted under the broad-based admissions scheme during the first semester of Year 1. After announcing the Major Assignment result, the School will re-assign the advisors to students according to their corresponding Majors in the second semester of Year 1.
  • Each advisor will be assigned 3 to 4 students as their mentees.
  • Students are expected to meet their academic advisors for 6-10 hours in a given academic year to discuss the academic plan in order to achieve the major/minor programme requirements and academic goals.

  • Check your advisor’s name and contact details in September via BUniPort.

  • Seize this opportunity to connect with your advisor and bond with peers when they invite you to lunch gathering!
  • Promptly respond to your advisor’s invitations.
  • Schedule appointments to meet with your advisor.
  • Submit meeting records to the School Office.
