School of Communication Hosts 7th Staff Development Day to Advance Pedagogical Innovation

30 June 2026

The School of Communication hosted its 7th Staff Development Day on 30 June 2026. Attended by 24 participants both in-person and online, the hybrid event provided a valuable platform for faculty from across HKBU and peer institutions to exchange insights on pedagogy, curriculum design, and the evolving role of technology in higher education.

Centred on enhancing student readiness for the future of the media and creative industries, the session featured diverse presentations on active learning and digital transformation. Topics included integrating AI-assisted learning into media law and ethics, and preparing students for AI-simulated interviews within service-learning contexts.

Participants also shared innovative practices, from cultivating creativity and social impact in game and XR teaching to deploying immersive "Sensory Hackathons" for market research in multi-tier classrooms. Additionally, colleagues highlighted the success of cross-border blended learning, such as collaborative journalism projects with students from Indonesia, and strategic co-curricular activities, including industry visits, to support graduates during their school-to-work transition.

Professor Kara Chan, Associate Dean (Teaching and Learning) and event convenor, stated: "This collective exchange highlights our shared commitment to teaching excellence. These concerted efforts ensure that our classroom practices remain innovative, relevant, and aligned with the future needs of our students."
