Follow the steps below to join the competition:

  • Follow the HKBU School of Communication on Facebook / Instagram / WeChat / Xiaohongshu. 

  • Like the post 【Officially Started‼️ All #HKBUCOMM Students — Ready to Design Your Own Graduation Bear? 🐻️ ️】 on the above platforms.

  • Upload your design to the MS FORM provided.

Eligibility

  • Current students or alumni of the HKBU School of Communication.

  • Participants may join individually or as a team of up to 3 people.

  • Each participant/group can only have one submission.

  • File format and size: PNG / JPG / PDF, 300 dpi or above.

Submission Requirements

  • All entries must be original and must not plagiarize, copy, or infringe on any third-party copyrights, trademarks, or intellectual property.

  • The design must align with the theme: “2026 HKBU School of Communication Graduation Bear”.

  • Works may be created via hand-drawing, digital illustration, or any other artistic medium.

  • Bear size: 11cm (W) × 13cm (H).  

  • Printable area of T-shirt (if applicable): no more than 5cm (W) × 2.5cm (H).

  • Provide both front and back views of the bear design.

  • Your design must include:

    - A complete bear design.

    - Elements related to graduation and/or communication / media / journalism / public relations & advertising / interactive media.

    - Features that represent the School of Communication identity, such as HKBU blue & white color palette, microphone, camera, newspaper, pen, mobile phone, tablet, AI-related, etc.

    - Design rationale including character name and concept description.

Judging Criteria

Entries will be evaluated based on the following:

  • Creativity & Originality

  • Relevance to Theme

  • Appeal & Feasibility for Production

  • Design Concept

Judging Panel

  • The panel is formed by staff of the School of Communication and representatives from the Communication Alumni Association.

  • The results announced by the School shall prevail. The organiser reserves the right of final decision.

Public Voting

  • The five finalist designs will be uploaded to the School’s social media platforms (Facebook / Instagram / WeChat / Xiaohongshu) in late April for public voting.

  • Public voting will account for 20% of the final score.

  • The organiser reserves the right to disqualify any entry found to be engaging in vote manipulation or abnormal traffic activities.

Awards

  • 2026 HKBU School of Communication Graduation Bear Grand Award (1 winner): HK$3,000 cash prize. Selected by the judging panel as the overall best entry. The winning design will serve as the official blueprint for the 2026 School of Communication Graduation Bear. The School may make appropriate refinements while respecting the original concept. The bear will be produced in bulk and presented as a commemorative gift to all graduates at the 2026 Commencement Ceremony.

  • Most Popular Design Award (4 winners): HK$1,000 cash prize. Awarded to the entries receiving the highest number of likes during the public voting period.

Announcement of Results

Competition results will be announced in mid-May 2026 on the School of Communication’s social media platforms and website. Terms and Conditions

  1. The HKBU School of Communication is the organiser of this competition.
  2. Staff members of the HKBU School of Communication are not permitted to participate in this activity.
  3. The competition will be run until 23:59, 15 April 2026. All dates and times related to this event follow the schedule announced by the School. Late submissions will not be accepted.
  4. The HKBU School of Communication reserves the right to amend the terms and conditions or modify any part of the competition at any time without prior notice. Participants are responsible for reviewing the latest details before joining. In case of any disputes, the School reserves the right of final decision.
  5. All intellectual property rights of the submitted works remain with the creators. However, by entering the competition, participants grant the HKBU School of Communication the rights to: (1) use, modify, display, publish, or produce the work as the physical Graduation Bear and related products permanently and royalty‑free; (2) use the work in promotional materials (online and offline).
  6. The winning design will become the official 2026 Graduation Bear and may be produced as a physical product.
  7. The School will not be responsible for any loss, delay, error, unrecognisable data, or damage to submissions or winner notifications arising from computer, network, system, telephone line, technical issues, or any circumstances beyond the School’s control. In such cases, the affected submissions will be deemed invalid, and participants or winners shall not raise objections.
