The School of Communication is proud to announce that Professor Ivan Li Yupeng, Assistant Professor of the Department of Interactive Media and Director of the AI and Social Good Lab of the AI Media Centre, together with his team, have been honored with the Best DH Data Visualization – Winner at the Digital Humanities Awards (DH Awards) 2025 for their project “The Hong Kong Pop Culture Map”. The recognition underscores their outstanding achievement in digital innovation.
A collaborative digital scholarship project with the HKBU Library, “The Hong Kong Pop Culture Map” is a comprehensive and in-depth digital platform dedicated to showcasing the unique charms of Hong Kong’s films and pop music. By weaving together iconic movie scenes and the geographical backgrounds of classic Cantonese songs, the project offers users a rich, immersive cultural journey across time and space. Audiences can enjoy the artistry of local pop culture while exploring the history and heritage embedded in every scene.
Professor Li expressed his gratitude to the University, the HKBU Library, and the School of Communication for their support. He highlighted that the project’s success is the result of a collective effort aimed at fostering cultural appreciation and promoting international dialogue.
Established in 2012, the Digital Humanities Awards is a prestigious annual community award that recognise talent and expertise in the digital humanities field worldwide. Winners are selected through public nominations and voting.
